I love this stuff. That's all I can say. I have had xango, that was sold to me by my brothe in law. The quality is great. It is a thicker concentration compared to the more expensive competitor. Plus, I like the taste better. It is a little sweeter. If it is too thick for you, you can add it to about 8oz of water and it tastes like a grape/strawberry juice. I like the idea that it is organic, too.

"I have suffered from heart palpitations since 2003. I went into the hospital one day with a heart rate of 220 beats per minute. I thought I was having a heart attack. Mangosteen Research Abstracts

When I started writing this site a year ago, I could only find limited recent research in PubMed.com . Now I find 66 abstracts on Garcinia mangostana research, 9 of which are from 2008.

So much is being studied about Mangosteen because it has so many powerful antioxidants that are showing some dramatic results. Here are just a few of the Abstracts.

1: Phytomedicine. 2005 Mar;12(3):203-8.Links Antibacterial activity of alpha-mangostin against vancomycin resistant Enterococci (VRE) and synergism with antibiotics. Sakagami Y, Iinuma M, Piyasena KG, Dharmaratne HR.

"Alpha-Mangostin, isolated from the stem bark of Garcinia mangostana L., was found to be active against vancomycin resistant Enterococci (VRE) and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), with MIC values of 6.25 and 6.25 to 12.5 microg/ml, respectively. Our studies showed synergism between alpha-mangostin and gentamicin (GM) against VRE, and alpha-mangostin and vancomycin hydrochloride (VCM) against MRSA. Further studies showed partial synergism between alpha-mangostin and commercially available antibiotics such as ampicillin and minocycline. These findings suggested that alpha-mangostin alone or in combination with GM against VRE and in combination with VCM against MRSA might be useful in controlling VRE and MRSA infections."

"In conclusion, alpha-mangostin preserves the myocardial membrane integrity and extenuates anomalous TNF-alpha and COX-2 expressions by mitigating ISO-induced oxidative stress and cellular damage effectively. Restoration of cellular normalcy accredits the cytoprotective role of alpha-mangostin."
